Good news. According to Governor Perdue on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, middle class families in North Carolina have an ally in the federal government – and it is none other than President Obama himself.
But wait. She must have a different definition of what it means to stand up for the middle class from what most of us have. To her, creating a tobacco tax and a tanning tax, outlawing deductions for over-the-counter medicine, and implementing the individual-mandate tax for Obamacare (all of which directly hurt the middle class) signify that Obama is holding to his promise of not raising taxes on people who make less than $250,000 a year.
I’m not sure how breaking promises could be the same as keeping them or how burdening middle class families could be the same as helping them, but many of the DNC supporters seem to be on board with her logic. Let’s hope that most people, however, are not persuaded by it.
