Questions continue to swirl concerning exactly Gov. Perdue’s whereabouts on Saturday soon after a series of violent storms and tornadoes hit North Carolina.(See: article) .
Unfortunately most of the controversy comes from conflicting statements from the Gov.’s office On Sunday, Deputy Communications Director Mark Johnson reported that Perdue was in Kentucky at a horse race. On Monday, Chrissie Pearson, Perdue’s Communications Director reported Perdue and her husband were in Kentucky for a “family obligation”.
When asked if Pearson’s statement didn’t contradict his original statement because Johnson said the two governors and their families are friendly….Huh?
Realizing there were problems in reports they gave to the press, Gov. Perdue’s communications office shifted into overdrive on Sunday and Monday, making sure everyone knew that the governor returned home to North Carolina before the main high stakes race and as soon as she was informed of the severity of the storms.
It’s amazing how on Sunday video and pictures of Governor Perdue in a helicopter surveying storm damage and introducing state and federal disaster officials at briefings suddenly became available.
Without a doubt the earlier press reports from the Governor’s were various shades of the truth. This isn’t good for the Governor or the people she has taken an oath to serve.
Dawn says
She was at a horse race, and the big O was off playing golf. They haven’t declared it an official disaster area yet. For the same things they bashed Bush about after Katrina, they themselves are now doing. Total Hypocrites!!!
