Finally, North Carolina is considering sensible quasi-market solutions for building roads in the state. The failed Soviet-style DOT system of patronage and, of course, "equity distribution formulae" are finally giving way to turnpikes and (maybe) lanes funded in-part by congestion pricing.
But just as NC considers construction of a much needed turnpike in RTP, environmentalists are worried about the little lungs of children at a daycare center near the proposed site. If voters truly understood just how much they are paying for all this green fetishism, they would be appalled. We’ll have to see whether "Gary S. Bird, father of two children at the First Environments Early Learning Center" will turn this into a "Swampy"-type issue here in NC, or if yet another environmental impact study will add X millions to the project.
