Politicians sometimes pass laws and decide not to comply with those laws. I like to point out examples of this type of hypocrisy but it is not often I get to use a campaign video from a candidate to show you an elected official violating a law he voted for, in this case the “Seat Belt Law“. Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton has been kind enough to provide proof of his violation: In the screen shot from the video, Dalton is clearly not wearing his seatbelt.
In 2005 & 2006 Dalton is on record voting here and here for the very law he violates in this campaign video.
Another politician saying one thing and doing another…
You can watch here at the 26 second mark and at the 1:08 mark .
Ben says
HOLY CRAP, WHERE WAS THE FBI ON THIS ONE?
Ian says
That is the stupidist thing I have ever heard. do you think maybe it could be under his tie? Again, ridiculous. Find something important to talk about. If this is all you have, then you are showing your weaknesses in your ability to find anything wrong with this candidate.
Greg Flynn says
The gray line visible under his tie and casting a shadow over his shirt is the seat belt.
Christy says
Having seen pics of this shoot, I can tell you that his seatbelt is under the tie. What an idiotic piece of crappy “journalism.”
Dan says
Civitas institute outright lies in article attacking candidate on hypocrisy. News at 11…
Ben says
I don’t suppose Francis made a call to the Dalton campaign for B footage before writing this? Hopefully Civitas will have the decency to apologize.
And I just watched the ad… you can actually see the seat belt… facepalm.
Leigh Somerville says
Like most men who wear ties, the seatbelt is under it! Surely, you have better things to do with your time than participate in this kind of mudslinging.
Mark says
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
Thomas Jefferson
Ben says
Mark, that is the most appropriate use of a Thomas Jefferson tyranny quote I have ever seen.
George Greene says
Civitas ought to be just palin suable over this. If not, would Dalton consider it a distraction to make a “Civitas is clearly lying” ad? In this screen shot from the video, Dalton (even if not “clearly”) IS wearing his seatbelt. More to the point, IF THERE IS a video from which this is captured, why are we ONLY linking to the 26-second and 68-second marks? Why not the footage IN BETWEEN? Won’t IT show MORE? Won’t it in fact prove THE EXACT OPPOSITE conclusion? Who is Francis DeLuca? Is he some sort of mole for the Dems??
George Greene says
Was this just a scam to provoke me into giving up my email address?
George Greene says
I asked the previous question before actually watching it. I am confused, if there is a problem at both the 26-second and 68-second marks, why they have posted this one (the 26-second one). In THIS one, the seat-belt IS visible, but at the 68-second one, well, it was “better hidden”. I just mean, if they were going to be stupid enough to do this in the first place, they could’ve at least been smart enough to use THE OTHER time-point!!
Greg Flynn says
Other photos at BlueNC.com from the video shoot clearly show that Walter Dalton was wearing a seat belt.
Francis De Luca says
If anyone wants to send me video and photos referenced above that show a seat belt being worn in this video I will be happy to post and acknowledge that a belt is in fact being worn as required by the law. I just do not see it in this campaign video.
