Last Friday, The Charter Day School of the Roger Bacon Academy in Leland, North Carolina held their annual lottery. The video below is from the event. The size of the crowd says it all. There were about 240 applicants for 90 spots. This is the REAL North Carolina Education Lottery.
Charter Day School is a proven school with a great staff, solid academic program and good test scores. State law caps the number of public charter schools in North Carolina at 100. It has also helped to make the lottery a big event in many towns. How sad that we’ve tied the hopes and dreams of so many children and parents to nothing more than mere chance.
Hopefully, the General Assembly does the right thing, lifts the cap and moves forward with legislation (SB 8) to improve North Carolina’s current charter school law.
It’s no fun seeing so many sad faces.
