Of course there is voter fraud and of course people vote more than once in North Carolina elections. The surprising thing is that this type of fraud was discovered at all because North Carolina election laws make it almost impossible to detect. Most of the time, board of election offices chalk it up to administrative error or have no clue that it is happening.
Now, almost 3 years after this voter fraud occurred, charges are brought against 3 people for voting more than once in the 2008 General Election. We have no idea how many more people are out there that make it habit to vote more than once in an election, either using their own name or names of inactive voters.
The North Carolina Election System needs an overhaul. The Republicans in the General Assembly made a stab at it this year, but in the end some good proposals ended up in some committee.
More and more, the people of North Carolina are questioning the outcome of their elections. Let’s hope the NC Legislature will pick up where they left off and work to pass good, solid election reform legislation that will protect all our votes.

i think the purple finger would solve the problem
Faye says
How is this not caught. When I vote they put a sticker by my name. I’ve voted and that should be seen if I try to vote again. I don’t understand how this happens. A sticker by my name is as bright as paint on my finger.
Susan Myrick says
They waited to the last hours to vote during one-stop voting and voted early on Election Day – KNOWING that their polling place would not get the updated list of absentee voters until later in the morning on Election Day.
Judy says
Evidently, Gary Bartlett, Executive Director of the Board of Elections knew this when he was out in front claiming there was “No Voter Fraud” in North Carolina during the Voter Photo ID debate at the legislature.
JANET says
I DOUBT THERE IS ENOUGH TO MAKE A DIFFERANCE
Judy says
How does Janet know there isn’t enough to make a difference?
Gerry Coleman says
Rep Myrick is correct. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Push your NV legislature to address this issue. Gerry
Katie Trout says
Hey Gerry, while we’d love to hear from Rep. Myrick from Charlotte, Susan Myrick is one of our great analysts here at Civitas. She can answer just about any question concerning election reform/laws, so ask away!

The Federal Motor voter law
in my opinion is a perfect vehicle for registering out of state illegals to vote in N C. I have in past years witnessed long lines of illegals lined up at the Madsion County DMV office in Marshall. The law reqiures they be offered the opportunity to vote as they probably give a fake N C address to get their drivers license. There was a scandal in that office a few years afo regarding one of the DMV Employees issuing licenses. The situation was very public in the local county media as well as other media. A good researcher might uncover surprising information pertaining to the DMV employee arrested in the Madison County News-Record Sentinel at that time with pictures of illegals from several southern states lined up and down the railroad track waiting to get Drivers licenses.
Ann Ryder says
Oh yes…I remember it well. And the DMV employee was represented by Larry Leake, chairman of the State Board of Elections.
Jo says
Obviously, the “I Voted” sticker can easily be peeled off! And purple ink washed off, if you could even get people to agree to it. Let’s get not only Voter ID laws passed, but citizens to volunteer as poll observers in every polling place, especially where fraud has been reported and ignored. Just contact your local party officials to sign up.

I, too, assumed this was written by Rep Sue Myrick. Please include a disclaimer on future articles to avoid confusion. Keep up the excellent work!
Susan Myrick says
SR – sorry, I don’t think I will use a disclaimer – since I was Susan Myrick before the Congresswoman was Sue Myrick
Jay DeLancy says
Great post, Susan. I wonder how many actual cases it will take before the fraud deniers will quit claiming there its no vote fraud in NC. The foxes have been guarding the hen house in NC for about 140 years. Hmmmm…no crimes here…nothing to see…move along.
Rob Jones says
@ Janet. (taken from a previous post)
“Remember too, that to come out a winner, you don’t have to perpetrate the fraud everywhere. All you need to do is win in key legislative districts and by small margins.”
DSMetts says
Let’s get on the ball and look at the internet voting scheme of North Carolina’s State Election Board…..
