Last night nearly 3,000 students and families from across North Carolina gathered at the War Memorial Auditorium in Greensboro to hear speakers and legislators and to voice their support for school choice (See press accounts here and here). The rally comes one week after the introduction of the Opportunity Scholarship Act, (HB 944). The bill, expands educational opportunity for needy families by providing up to $4,200 to students to help pay tuition and educational expenses at the school of their choice. To be eligible, students must be from households whose income is not greater than 225 percent of the federal poverty level, about $53,000 for a family of four.
