More economic incentive failure – this time in the mountains.
"A boat builder that received state incentives to relocate a manufacturing plant to the mountains is shuttering the facility the day after Christmas, laying off around 125 people.
In 2002, luxury boat company Mako Marine International was promised $150,000 from the One North Carolina economic development fund if it could bring 300 jobs to the town of Forest City in Rutherford County."
Perhaps as a Christmas gift, Easley could visit Forest City and hand out copies of Site Selection magazine with his picutre on the cover declaring NC as the nation's "Best Business Climate" to the former Mako Marine employees as they head to the unemployment line.
