"Today, Governor Bev Perdue signed into law the Gender Justice Act. This new act will allow men on death row to challenge the judicial system of North Carolina on the basis of Sexism. Men that have been sentenced to capital punishment will be able to use data and other evidence to prove that in their District, County, or State that Sexism could have been a factor in either the Prosecutor pursuing the death penalty or jurors imposing it.
"This new act is a great progressive victory in North Carolina. Currently, 97% of all people on death row are men. Only 3% are women, even though women make up 51.1% of the population of North Carolina. Hopefully, this Act will help to undo the deeply entrenched sexual prejudice in North Carolina's judicial system."
"In a Committee Meeting, Representatives were quoted saying 'It's about fairness for everybody'."
Scary thought… This is a satire based off of SB461.
Gerry says
while I understand this is satire, the more relevant stat would be what percentage of murder convictions were of women, not the % of the population.
Zach McMichael says
I completely agree, but then it wouldn’t be a satire of this bill anymore. The bill allows death row to be compared to the population.
