The state Senate passed the bill that would drop some end of grade tests. Republican Senator Jerry Tillman said students in the state are caught up in “testmania.” He said we are test crazy and it leads to teachers teaching to the test instead of focusing on critical skills. Democrats noted current and former judges have warned the bill would be unconstitutional. Tillman said they shouldn’t let the courts tell them how to do their job. He said if there is a legal challenge then let the courts deal with it. The measure passed 44-5 and is now headed to the Governor’s desk for signing.
