The AFL-CIO and the State Employees Association organized a silent protest outside the General Assembly Monday. It was part of a nationwide protest over what they called the loss of rights for public workers. MaryBe McMillan with the AFL-CIO called for collective bargaining rights for North Carolina government workers.
A newly formed Labor,Faith, Civil Rights Coalition of the Public Sector is making another push to approve collective bargaining rights for North Carolina government workers. There was a bill introduced with a Mental Health Workers’ Bill of Rights. It called for collective bargaining orginially but that was removed in a later version.
