By a partisan margin of 33-17, the NC Senate yesterday approved its budget plan for the coming biennium. The budget proposal now moves to the House, where it is expected to alter provisions including – among other items – tax reform, pre-K education funding, allocations for teacher and teacher assistant slots, and compensation for past victims of the state’s former sterilization programs.
Recent comments from the governor’s office and House budget writers suggest the House spending plan would be more aligned with the governor’s proposal than the Senate.
The new fiscal year begins July 1.
