Senate District 45 starts off its race much like that of Senate District 50 which we released yesterday — a statistical dead heat.
Incumbent Democratic Senator Steve Goss leads Republican challenger Dan Soucek 43%-41%, but inside the poll’s statistical margin of error.
Goss begins the race with a fairly sizable name ID advantage, practically doubling the favorables of Soucek. Goss’s net favorability rating is +23 (34% favorable, 11% unfavorable), while Soucek’s is only +8 (18% favorable, 10% unfavorable).
Turning to the portion of the Congressional district that overlaps SD 45, Virginia Foxx is doing very well in the area, defeating her opponent Billy Kennedy 54%-37%.
However, Richard Burr isn’t fairing nearly as well, with voters high country having an overall unfavorable opinion of his job as Senator: 33% approve, 42% disapprove.

Dont know Dan Soucek, but do know Steve Goss. Senator Goss a great person and has been very active with our community. Senator Goss has worked hard to bring many state grants to our area and is not afraid to show he christian faith. We are very lucky to have a leader like Senator Goss.

Steve Goss sounds like a good man. But Im afraid he is just another faceless cog in the Democratic machine in Raliegh. To fix NC we need small government conservatives not old school liberals. A vote for Goss is a vote for Marc Basnight. And Basnight needs to be retired
