As reported in yesterday’s Under the Dome, Bill McNeal of the N.C. Association of School Administrator, and Wendell Hall, president of the N.C. School Boards Assn. are circling the wagons and defending school administrators from politicians hoping to make additional cuts to central offices.
“There is no bloated central office,” Hall said.
Now I understand, Mr. Hall and Mr. McNeal are just doing their jobs, but let’s look at the actual numbers, say for Wake County. While it is true the Wake County School Board has laid off 68 people and eliminated 57 other vacant positions in central services, the office still has a staff of approximately 670.
Does Wake County really need 27 Senior Administrators in Facilities and Planning (nearly half of the office of 55); 18 Processing Technicians in the Office of Human Resources or a staff of 34 for the Communications Office, including 8 Senior Administrators?
No bloated central office? Decide for yourself.
