Raleigh City Council members have announced plans to give $2,500 of tax dollars to an organization affiliated with Blueprint NC, the left-wing group that gained infamy with their “eviscerate” memo last year. WakeUp Wake County was listed as a “member organization” of Blueprint NC. The group has been involved in issues ranging from transit to education, and is receiving the taxpayer funds to host “forums” on water quality.
How even-handed and how much diversity of opinion will be allowed at said “forums” is yet to be seen. But one has to ask: if the event is funded in part by local government officials, how skewed in favor of more government control will the discussion be?
Last summer, Civitas reported on the fraud and corruption involved with the Raleigh Business and Technology Center, a taxpayer-funded “economic development” group. Now Raleigh leaders are giving away your tax dollars to a highly partisan advocacy group. Its cases like these taxpayers need to remember next time city council decides to raise taxes or fees because they claim they must have more of your money to provide “essential services.”
