Pollster Dustin Ingalls, assistant director with the Democratic Polling Group – Public Policy Polling was speaking to the Cumberland County Democratic Men’s Club when he was quoted as saying,
“To win, we have to raise a lot of money, first of all, and we have to absolutely eviscerate McCrory.” He went on to say, “We have to just slash McCrory — death by a thousand cuts.”
As we all know, negative campaigning is nothing new, maybe the difference this year will be in the way NC’s mainstream media will embrace the practice. The N&O, in their report on the Ingalls’ comments, called the strategy “essentially politics 101.”
While Ingalls’ quotes may be sensational, the way the MSM reports them may be even more interesting. You see, the MSM have decided to put themselves in the political game by, “fact checking” political ads and even political rhetoric . WRAL says they will take “a detailed look at claims made in political advertising” and on April 18 2012 the N&O launched a “fact” checking blog.
What this means is we all must now fact check the fact checkers. Does anyone think that the MSM will remind us of Ingalls’ “strategy” when they cite Public Policy Polling’s poll results on the Governor’s race this year?
