How do you get racial and gender breakdowns? I’ve never marked my ballot with any of that information.

Thanks for your comment. The board of elections doesn’t know how you vote but they do know that you voted. After a voter casts their vote (or in the case of early voting when they vote) the local boards of elections updates the individual’s voter registration record to indicate that the voter voted in the election. Then Board runs reports that produce files that include name, address, party, race, gender, etc of all voters who voted. Here is a link to the site that the State Board of Elections uses to house voter history files ftp://www.app.sboe.state.nc.us/enrs
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Great post Susan. Interesting that turnout is running ahead of 2008 with no Presidential race.

Where are these numbers from? If this is right, it means over 300,000 voters voted the next ten days in 2008. According to N&O on Sunday, April 21, 2008, over 56,000 voted in the first 3 days of voting in 2008. I think your numbers are wrong.

My bad. In 2008, the vote did come in the second half of early voting. I don’t think that will happen this year, though. Here’s a link:

Would you compare the early voting numbers this year with the figures from the 2010 primary election?
Susan Myrick says
Mike – I just posted a couple of new charts and one compares the 2012 one-stop turnout to the 2010 one-stop vote. http://bit.ly/JWk9Rr
