State Senator Jerry Tillman has introduced legislation to make North Carolina’s judicial races partisan again.
Non-partisan judicial races are relatively new to North Carolina’s ballots. The law changed in 2001 when District Court Judge races were made non-partisan and in then in 2002 when the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals races were made non-partisan.
According to the latest Civitas Poll 68% of voters support a proposal identifying judicial candidates by party on the ballot.
