As some are already aware, Brooke Medina and I have launched a new podcast here at Civitas called “Civitalk.” Obviously, podcasting is a booming market, but to be successful, they must be good and offer something unique considering all the competition. We know we have to compete for your valuable time. I only listen to two or three regularly myself. That is why I want to offer just a few thoughts on the general direction and goals of this podcast from the get-go in hopes it can capture 30 minutes of your week.
We promise to keep you up to date on what is going on in North Carolina, particularly in our state government and upcoming elections. However, we will always seek to go deeper than any ideological talking points and the headlines. We’ll offer up stories when relevant and get into discussions about things like the importance of conservatism for today. What does conservatism mean and what should it look like? This is an essential question, especially given that we live in an age of deep moral confusion, angst, and general aimlessness amongst large swaths of our state and nation.
In this hyper-politicized society, Brooke and I will strive to talk about more than mere policy or politics alone. We want to talk about life too, and how that intersects with policy and how ideas have consequences for all of us. Afterall, culture is upstream of politics and it’s the culture that ultimately determines the success or failure of a society. It’s the Left that believes politics and government action is what can save or rescue our society from all ills. Particularly in this crazy era, so many mythically believe that just swapping out one set of politicians for whom they deem to be the right ones is all that is needed to flourish.
Most importantly, we want you to know that our audience is the only asset to us and Civitas. Authenticity is a diminishing virtue, but you will always get that with us here at Civitalk. We hope to be civic educators and we know we have much to learn from our listeners too.
