This week there was a lot of talk about lost jobs at dueling press conferences by Governor Beverly Perdue and Republican Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger. Berger said over 100,000 jobs have been lost since Perdue took office. Perdue didn’t dispute that but said she has worked to create more jobs and claimed many succeses.
There’s another way to look at those numbers. Statistics from the Employment Security Commission show in February of this year compared to February of 2008 there were 298,000 fewer people employed in North Carolina.
February 2008 – 4,177,400
February 2011 – 3,879,300
Those are totals of those employed in non-farm jobs.
