Yesterday long-time union watcher Mike Antonucci listed “NEA’s 5 financially shakiest states” on the blog, The 74 . Antonucci’s analysis is based on a review of internal and tax documents for NEA affiliates.
Antonucci’s list:
Alabama Education Association
Indiana State Teachers Association
Michigan Education Association
Wisconsin Education Association Council
North Carolina Association of Educators
What does Antonucci say about NCAE?
… The North Carolina Association of Educators lost 9.6 percent of its active members in 2015 and is only about half the size it was in 2010. It is now below the threshold for payroll deduction of dues set by state law, although enforcement of that provision seems to be a problem for the state. NCAE ran a $690,000 deficit in 2015, and its employees claim they have not received a raise in eight years.
In the meantime, North Carolina State government continues to provide dues deduction services for an organization that is bleeding members and refuses to cooperate with the State Auditor to certify its membership meets the state threshold.

If it’s bad for child-abusing anti-education teachers’ unions, it’s good for education.

Liberals fail to follow RULES! Really? The public educational collectives marching on!
George says
NCCivitas – the pitbull against public education.
Pinto says
You say that as if that were a bad thing, George.
