The NC Senate adopted the conference report on SB 33, Medical Malpractice Reforms Act, by a vote of 32-9 today. The legislation will cap noneconomic damages to $500,000. Defendant doctors will be held to the standard of care among members of the same health care profession with similar training and experience situated in the same or similar communities under the same or similar circumstances.
The Senate will hold a skeleton session tomorrow and will take up more bills and committee meetings again Monday afternoon.
