The North Carolina Democratic Party recently endorsed 77 resolutions to be added to its party platform. Most resolutions were in alignment with the party’s national policy objectives and goals; however, there were a few that went beyond the party’s already liberal agenda, solidifying the notion that the Democratic Party in North Carolina is lurching to the Left in in radical form.
What are some of the aims of NC Democrats? There was the unsurprising call to implement a single-payer healthcare system and a proposal to repeal the recent marriage amendment that was overwhelmingly passed by voters.
But it doesn’t stop there.
A resolution to legalize marijuana use was added. Interestingly, no mention was made of using the drug for medicinal purposes. I suppose that since the Obama “high” has faded, Democrats are in search for a quick fix.
Other intriguing resolutions included banning puppy mills in the state (yet, hundreds of abortions will be performed in North Carolina today. Don’t get me wrong; I love puppies, but let’s put things into perspective), a resolution to endorse the creation of a cabinet-level Department of Peace and Nonviolence (where marijuana smoking is probably a requirement of the job), and a call to abandon the pursuit of nuclear energy (because energy prices are way too low these days). Fascinatingly, the only resolution that was rejected dealt with calling for a “just peace in the Middle East,” which embodied anti-Israel sentiments. Go figure.
It saddens me that the NC Democratic Party has endorsed these radical positions. It appears that liberalism has run amuck in the state party.
