More views are being added to the debate over the efforts by the state and local officials attempt to steal a dam in Stanly county from the current owner, Alcoa.
The North Carolina Property Rights Coalition has joined the fight on the side of the owner. The group’s chairman, Raleigh attorney Kieran Shanahan said, “We are joining this fight because allowing the state to seize Alcoa’s private property would set a dangerous precedent for North Carolina’s property owners.”
“Alcoa is a private business that paid for and developed the land it owns,” Shanahan continued. “If the state is allowed to seize Alcoa’s property, how vulnerable are private citizens and small business owners like you and me to the same type of government takeover?”
