Governor Bev Perdue is making a trip to Washington, DC today to petition for more federal funds for North Carolina. Instead of working to find better ways to cut spending, target waste and inefficiency in government, and provide tax relief for North Carolinians struggling in the recession – our Governor has decided to take the Washington money route.
The Governor plans to meet with several White House officials including, Energy Secretary Steven Chu to request a federal stimulus grant to fund a renewable energy project, as well as Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to discuss North Carolina’s Medicaid costs – which as reported this week have already exceeded more than half the allotted budget for this fiscal year in the first quarter.
It seems spending is Perdue’s singular modus operandi. Never mind that the increased federal funds come with further strings and directives. The Governor’s frequent visits to Washington, DC this year have yet to produce any positive results for the North Carolina’s economic situation.
Perhaps the Governor should step up and make some tough decisions instead of feeding our leadership’s spending addiction, and break the petulant child – overindulgent parent relationship with Washington that has so quickly developed this year.
