The News and Observer reports that the Citizen Soldier Support Program has spent $7.3 million of the $10 million Congressman David Price had earmarked “to help deployed soldiers of the National Guard and Army reserves.” The money was sent to UNC-Chapel Hill in the Congressman’s home county.
Now, after 5 years, it is reported that the money has been spent on staff salaries, high paid consultants, travel and overhead. And, what do the men and women who put their life on the line for us get – – a database of NC mental health providers experienced with the military and problems such as post-traumatic brain injury.
Congressman Price continues to think that the program is worthy and is quoted as saying: “The check isn’t just sent out and forgotten about. If these funds haven’t been utilized in the most effective way, we need to correct it.” The “funny” thing is that it looks like it took Congresswoman Sue Myrick to step in to shine light on this disgraceful mess.
