Today six new members took their seats on the North Carolina State Board of Education. The new members — all appointed by Governor Pat McCrory and confirmed by the legislature — comprise almost half of 14 member board. New members whose terms run through 2019 include: Bill Cobey, Rebecca Taylor and Greg Alcorn. Members whose term will run through 2021 include: Olivia Oxendine, A.J. “Buddy” Collins and Marcellus Savage.
Good luck to all in new members in your new responsibilities!

Sad news about Collins. Collins apparently voted in 2009 to *defy state law* (and to place his school district out of compliance with state mandates on anti-bullying policies) due to his anti-LGBT stance. That’s some scary anti-equality extremism. More info on it here: http://www.youthallies.com/north-carolina-lgbt-buddy-collins-defy-law/
