Before continuing the lovefest over the appointment of Gene Conti as NC DOT Secretary a cold shower might be in order. It was just a few years ago he was shown the door from another job he held in DOT.
While I can't find the original story, this is from a 4/31/04 N&O Dome story "…Miller gave Gene Conti, the No. 2 man at the DOT, a one-day-a-week job managing his Raleigh office. In June, Gov. Mike Easley removed Conti from his state job because of concerns about the arrangement"
While Conti may be an improvement over some past appointees, his career seems to be mostly a series of government type jobs. That apparently included trying to collect salaries from the Federal & State government at the same time. He also can claim connection to the NC Global TransPark where he has served as Vice-Chairman since 2002. We know how well that has done over the years.
