Civitas and the Franklin Institute present events for bloggers and citizen journalists.
Speaking today, Saturday, is Katie Pavlich, author of a book on Fast and Furious. And news editor and writer at townhall.com.
More on the details of F and F, and how it is an example of exposing corruption.
“Fast and Furious is a scandal exposed not by the mainstream media, but by bloggers,” she says.
Obama, Holder and H. Clinton said 90 percent of Mexican guns were from the U.S. This is false, she said.
Out of 2500 weapons sent to Mexico, two — 2 — had GPS devices. “Does that sound like a serious tracking program to you?” she asks rhetorically.
ATF agents: sending guns into the hands of the cartels was the plan — the opposite of the stated intention.
The same holds on local level: Is the money really going to the stated goal? That’s what citizen journalists must find out.
For example: the goal of the stimulus was to boost economy. The real goal: bail out unions and other Obama allies.
F and F: the government lied when they said the guns wouldn’t be used in crimes. The dealers objected many times; the government said not to worry.
Look at the documents! They prove ATF was pushing for requirements for long rifle sales — which the ATF had been pushing under Fast and Furious!
So … who knew what and when?
She uses videos and memos to show the lies.
“Use their own words and documentation from the government” to expose lies, Pavlich says.
Also, “whistleblowers are essential,” she says. For government officials are shameless in slandering critics and hiding documents.
But whistleblowers may pay a price. Pavlich plays a video of an attempt to intimidate whistleblowers, in the name of “organizational discipline.”
She says whistleblowers do go through the chain of command, nothing happens, so they have to outside of that same flawed chain of command.
And, like James O’Keefe, she says media is part of the problem. An example, an ex-Clinton staffer did an ambush on the F and F reporters, right before the contempt vote.
“The American people want the truth,” she concludes, and citizen journalists can help us reach it.
Questions:
What will happen with the contempt vote? Congress getting civil contempt charges ready.
And, she says, this wasn’t just DOJ. Homeland Security and IRS are among the agencies involved.
