Oh poor Gov. Perdue. After President Obama announced that he was allowing offshore drilling to begin to proceed off the east coast (including North Carolina), she has the audacity to say that it is happening “with or without us.”
Well, Governor, who do you think has drug her feet on making a decision on offshore drilling causing “us” to be left behind?
Let me refresh your memory a little bit:
Do you remember this? “Perdue opposes offshore drilling.” (N&O 6/18/2008)
Better yet, let’s get you on video talking about drilling:
Ok, so you were against it before you were before it, that’s fine. But once you were elected, did you do anything to advance the idea of opening North Carolina’s coast to offshore drilling? Virginia and South Carolina were both moving forward with offshore drilling proposals, surely you would do the same, right?
Nope, you waited nine months into office to announce that you wanted more “study” on the issue. Never mind the fact that the General Assembly had already created its own advisory panel on offshore drilling a few months prior, you went ahead and on September 18, 2009 issued Executive Order #23 creating the “Governor’s Scientific Advisory Panel on Offshore Energy.”
Why not go ahead and duplicate the General Assembly’s work, that’s sure to speed up the process.
So Gov. Perdue, when you complain that the federal government is moving ahead with its decision “with or without us” it is because you took too long to make a decision. You have no one to blame but yourself and your inaction on the issue.
Remember the old saying, “Lead, follow or get out of the way”? Well, Obama just told you to get out of the way.
