Gateways to Better Education and the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) have teamed up to promote the National Free to Speak Campaign. The new campaign is bringing awareness to the U.S. Department of Education guidelines’ on religious expression in public schools. Under these provisions schools should be a safe place for students to express their own religious beliefs without fear or threat; however these guidelines are often forgotten or ignored.
The U.S. Department of Education has affirmed the guidelines three times since 1995, twice under Clinton and once under Bush. Using the apparent bi-partisan support, the campaign highlights seven important religious freedoms for public school campuses in a pocket-sized pamphlet entitled “Free to Speak.” Supporters and advocates are also getting involved by sending letters and ordering pamphlets to distribute at social clubs, civic groups and youth organizations. You can get involved here and help reach the goal of 500,000 pamphlets distributed nationwide reaching 5,000 public school campuses and make sure that your student is free to speak.
