When the topic of voter fraud arises, one of the more blatant cases of fraud discussed involves the deceased still showing up on voter rolls and even continuing to cast ballots. Talk about postmortem patriotism! It must be at an all-time high these days.
Simple voter fraud should be an affront to us all. Moreover, the deceased casting votes should increase our frustration. But, what about deceased pets voting? You’re probably shaking your head, thinking that I’ve lost my marbles. But, allow me to point your attention to Bedford County, Virginia, where a deceased dog named Mozart “Mo” Morris recently received a voter registration form.
You read that correctly. A dead dog received a voter registration form in the mail. The liberal-leaning Voter Participation Center was responsible for sending the registration form. They target young, lower income and minority populations, gather lists of their names, and send voter registration forms to them. Mo happened to be listed as 19 years old (in human years or dog years, I wonder?) and therefore fit some of the Voter Participation Center’s criteria.
Thankfully, the political pup’s owners reported the fraud. This incident raises a question in my mind, though: If it was this easy to register a dead dog to vote, how much easier would it be for someone bent on fraudulently voting to register and then vote? Animal shelters beware, voter registration forms may be coming your way!
Incredible incidents like this reveal to us why Voter ID is so desperately needed in North Carolina. If things like this happen in Virginia, I’m pretty sure they could happen here. Photo ID would prevent a large amount of voter fraud. Yes, the rights of deceased pets to vote would be violated, but I would be okay with that, and I think you would be, too.
