Last Friday the State Board of Community Colleges approved a new rule that allows the state’s 58 community colleges to admit – with certain restrictions — illegal immigrants.
The new rule now goes to the State Rule Review Commission (SRRC). If SRRC receives 10 objections from the public, the new rule will go the General Assembly for review. Individuals who wish to share their thoughts on the new rule, can submit comments to:
Office of Administrative Hearings
Rules Review Commission
1711 New Hope Church Road
Raleigh, NC 27609
Once law makers receive the comments, they can pass a law to block the rule or take no action and the rule will take effect.
Is there a chance the General Assembly would reconsider the rule? I wouldn’t bet on it. High percentages of North Carolinians already oppose the admission of illegal immigrants to North Carolina’s community colleges. Yet, legislative leadership has only ignored public sentiment and the numerous bills introduced to address the problems of illegal immigration. Something all voters should remember when they go to the polls in November.
