A House appropriations panel is consideringh HB854 which would require a doctor or qualified personnel to fully explain the medical risk of an abortion. It would also mandate that 24 hours before an abortion the woman would be told the doctor’s name and where the procedure would be done. The measure would also require a doctor to show the woman an ultrasound of the fetus and explain its condition.
The patient would also have to be given information on alternatives to abortion, such as medical assistance after birth, public assistance programs, and the fact the father would be responsible for child support.
Doctor Amy Bryant told the committee she was opposed to the bill because it was an intrusion…
But Sylinthia Stewart of Fayetteville, who had 5 abortions, said women need more information before deciding on an abortion…
The bill has been referred to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.
