The General Assembly has officially adjourned until September 12, 2011. Among many accomplishments for this legislative session, legislators worked diligently through the end to override several of Governor Perdue’s vetoes. The legislature managed to override the Regulatory Reform Act of 2011 (SB781), ESC/Jobs Reform (SB532), Medical Liability Reforms (SB33), Woman’s Right to Know (HB854), and the Medicaid and Health Choice Provider Req (SB496) in addition to the historic budget (HB200) override earlier in the session.
Attempts to override the voter ID bill (HB351) and No Dues Checkoff for the NCAE (SB727) failed to capture enough votes and were left to possibly re-emerge another day under a procedural maneuver.
A rumor that the General Assembly would take up a defense of marriage constitutional amendment did not come to fruition. Instead, this constitutional amendment and a couple of others may be considered when the legislature returns in September for its special session.
