The North Carolina State Fair has joined efforts to make North Carolina more “green.” WRAL reports that these “environmentally friendly” projects include collecting cooking oil to make biodiesel, using livestock manure to generate energy and making recycling bins accessible to fair patrons. Considering the recent ban on plastic bottles in landfills, fair goers should separate their trash from plastic and place each item in the proper bin. North Carolina’s obsession with being environmentally green has become all too familiar. As my article in the Lincoln Tribune points out, North Carolina legislators have waged an all out war against plastic and consumer choice. Encouraging recycling is one thing, but mandating it is another. And what can we expect from the fair next year? Will chicken poop power the Ferris Wheel?
