Former Governor Jim Hunt Sidesteps Question of Merging Smart Start and More At Four Programs

Former Governor Jim Hunt was always a master at marshalling his forces when he needed help during a politcal campaign. He was also pretty good at dancing around tough questions. He displayed both skills at a press conference at the legislature to urge continued funding of Smart Start and More At Four. Hunt filled the legislative press conference room with people who run pre-school programs around the state. There is move among Republicans at the General Assembly to merge the two pre-school programs to save money. A reporter asked Hunt about that but Hunt said he didn’t have a thought about it and noted a Duke University study lauding the work of the programs.
