“Our country isn’t lost, and we have a duty to fight and save it,” David Limbaugh, author and attorney, told CLC at lunch.
Conservatives are justly angry at the Republican establishment, he said. But some go too far, after some in the elite poo-poohed warnings about Obama’s radical past and aims.
No doubt the president has had success in his goal of “fundamentally changing” the United States, Limbaugh said. “Statism made progress through the 20th century, but h3 accelerated it a warp speed.”
But the feeble response by Republican elites is also a problem.
“There’s not a molecule of honor left in the Democratic Party,” he said. The stinging defeats in the 2010 and 2014 elections show the grassroots anger, but the establishment thought they can’t win in a budget shutdown battle.
Today, grassroots Republicans “have had it” with political correctness and surrender to the progressive agenda. “They are done with politicians who are accommodating scofflaws …. They are sick of politically correct bullies.”
“If you could travel in time from the mid-’80s to today, you wouldn’t believe it,” he said. “Yet the establishment meets these problems with barely disguised indifference.”
That’s the appeal of Trump, Limbaugh said. “When people are dehydrated, Trump looks like Gatorade.” The establishment rejected Trump, but as usual did so by insulting many ordinary people.
But Trump, in his values, character, behavior and policy, is almost the opposite of the conservative ideal.
Too many angry voters are willing to burn down the house, but it’s unclear of what Trump would do. “Trump would be a blind crap shoot.”
But if the establishment tries dirty tricks to stop Trump, they will destroy the Republican Party.
Cruz will meet grassroots concerns, with less baggage than Trump. “The way to defeat Trump … is to embrace the closest thing to a Reagan conservative, Ted Cruz.”
Cruz has the record and character to defend conservatism, Limbaugh said. It takes a forthright, hard-fighting conservative to bring change to Washington.
“I really believe this is it,” he said. “This is our last best chance to save America.”

I has the opportunity to chat with David before his speech (a thrill I will never forget) and was truly impressed with how genuine, down to earth and nice a person he is … a real class act! He was intelligent yet soft spoken, which made his speech even more fun to watch. After outlining examples of how we as a country got here, he proceeded to get very passionate about his views on what needs to happen and on Donald Trump. I absolutely enjoyed his speech, support everything he said, and will always remember our conversation. Thank you David Limbaugh and thank you Civitas!
