An offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement will “Occupy the Courts!” Friday. Activists plan to hold rallies at courthouses around the country, including in the Triangle and even Bryson City. They’ll be at the Terry Sanford Federal Building in Raleigh at 11:00 a.m.
Occupiers are protesting the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling (Citizens United vs Federal Election Commission) that rejected limitations on how much corporations or unions could give to a political campaign. The chances are good there will be plenty of money coming in for this year’s gubernatorial and presidential campaign since North Carolina will be a battleground state.
You could see bizarre costumes at the rallies. Below is a link to some instructions from the “Occupy the Courts!” web site of how to make a “corporate personhood” costume. We must have missed the “union personhood” costume.
