Our Conservative Leadership Conference is garnering good feedback from many of the 500-some people who took part in two days of events, with 30 experts and speakers illuminating the key topics of our time.
Here’s a sample of things you might have heard if you were lucky enough to be there:
“When I walked into the F.W. Woolworth, I didn’t know if I would come out in the prone position or still standing. But that didn’t matter. There are some things worth dying for.” –Clarence Henderson, who took part in the iconic sit-in in Greensboro in 1960
“Planning is the forcible superseding of someone else’s plan.” Economist Walter Williams
“Freedom is about togetherness; it is about building real community.” John Papola of Emergent Order, and co-creator of the Keynes vs. Hayek rap videos
On tracking promises about Obamacare: “It’s like chaining a unicorn.” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks
“Can’t we make North Carolina the tenth state that has no income tax?” Stephen Moore of the Heritage Foundation
On unaffiliated voters: “Their political beliefs are a total hodgepodge of memes, feelings, likes and dislikes. … They are frightened. They are disappointed. … What they hunger for is a coherent message delivered by a likable messenger.” Bill Frezza of the Real Clear Radio Hour
“If you’re on welfare, you can’t be free. If you get food stamps, you can’t be free. … If you rely on Uncle Sam for the next job or check, you can’t be free.” Lt. Gov. Dan Forest
“It’s time for the Republican Party to stop talking about Ronald Reagan and start acting like him.” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah
We hope to be able to tell you more about CLC 2014 soon. As for the next one, keep an eye on this space and other Civitas media. We want next year’s — our tenth conference — to be the biggest and best yet.
