Several district polls were released this week detailing state races in eastern North Carolina. You can check out the full details of all three here:
- Senate 1 (Beaufort, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Hyde, Pasquotank, Tyrrell, and Washington counties): Sen. Marc Basnight leads Republican opponent Hood Richardson 49-39 percent.
- House 1 (Camden, Currituck, Pasquotank, and Tyrell counties): Republican candidate John Woodard is ahead of Democratic incumbent Bill Owens 44-41 percent.
- House 2 (Chowan, Dare, Hyde, and Washington counties): Democratic incumbent Tim Spear is leading the race against Republican opponent Bob Steinburg 50-35 percent.
Sen. Basnight is capitalizing on his name recognition; however, support for him is now under 50 percent. The anti-incumbent sentiment we’re seeing across the state appears to be affecting Rep. Owens along with unaffiliated voters leaning heavily toward Woodard. Rep. Spear has a large lead over opponent Steinburg, which may shrink a bit as both candidates start to campaign more heavily. However, Steinburg has his work cut out for him.
