The ever-escalating cost of college is a topic with which many American families are all too familiar. How much has the cost of college increased? That’s the question The Tuition Over Time Interactive Database attempts to answer. The database, developed by the College Board and highlighted in this week’s Chronicle of Education, charts cost data for the past dozen years for 3,500 private and public two and four year colleges and universities. Aside from the tons of data, users will find the graphs and cost comparisons helpful. One relative bright spot in all this continues to be the affordability of the UNC System. Even though parents know UNC costs have increased — when compared to other large state universities — UNC tuition continues to be a real bargain.
Bob: Keep in mind that the price (tuition and fees) may be low compared with other public universities, but that is because many of the costs are being borne by the North Carolina taxpayer.
