As most of you know by now, the N.C. House approved the state budget, sending it to Gov. Perdue’s desk. To see how your representative voted, click here.
Perdue now has 10 days to sign or veto the budget bill. If she takes no action, the bill becomes law after that 10-day period. Perdue’s office has indicated that she will take “several days” to review the budget and make a decision. Of course, by “review the budget” they actually mean “try to strong-arm or make a deal with the five Democrats who voted for the budget to change their minds and support a Perdue veto so she doesn’t look weak politically.”
Senate leader Phil Berger had this to say about the situation at the GOP convention in Wilmington:
“Fortunately, I’m not sure it matters a whole lot whether she signs the budget. Increasingly, she is making herself irrelevant to what is happening in North Carolina.”
