You wouldn’t know it by some media reports, but Congressman Etheridge’s call for a recount is pre-mature. He can only officially call for a recount (in writing) after the election is certified on November 12 and then only if the difference between he and Ellmers remains less than 1% of the total votes cast.
Now, click here to take the new Civitas quiz – this blog will help you with one or two of the questions.
Joyce McCloy says
According to the WRAL link, Etheridge is consiering a recount: “Trailing by 1,600 votes, Congressman Bob Etheridge says he wants all provision ballots counted but will likely seek a recount in his race against Republican Renee Ellmers.”
At the News and Observer link we see that the reported vote totals on election night were inaccurate.
What happened? Sampson County did not report the results from three (3) early voting sites. Those sites were reported/added in on Nov 3 in the afternoon.
Would you have confidence in the results, after learning that one county forgot to count all of the votes? Just left out three whole early voting sites?
One thing is for sure, if you do want a recount in a North Carolina election, you need to be on the ball requesting it.
