The following letter to the editor appeared in the Carteret County News Times. This letter is signed by Hugh Wilde a self-described Democrat. Mr. Wilde goes on and on pointing out the wonderful things state senate candidate Randy Ramsey has done over the years for Democrats and the NC Democratic Party. Ramsey is running against Norm Sanderson in State Senate District 2 Republican Primary. Sanderson is a small busniess owner and is a first-term member of the NC House.
According to recent campaign finance reports Ramsey has out raised Sanderson by more than 10 to 1. According to the CJ article “Ramsey has raised $418,649 — including $234,000 in money he has loaned to his campaign — and spent $285,299. Sanderson raised $32,613 and spent $28,691.”
Here is a link to a good article that by David Bass of the Carolina Journal. It details the tens of thousands of dollars contributed by Ramsey and members of his family to Democrats and the Democratic Party. Ramsey also contributed campaign flights to Gov. Perdue’s campaign. Ironically, in 2009 Ramsey was appointed to the N.C. State University Board of Trustees by Gov. Perdue to fill the vacancy left by board chairman McQueen Campbell. Campbell was implicated in the investigation into former Gov. Mike Easley’s campaign for providing unreported campaign flights.
