North Carolina’s Attorney General, Roy Cooper, is running a petition asking the Governor not to sign HB 589 – the landmark election reform bill that contains the voter photo ID requirement.
Once again, the AG gives no legal reasons as to why he wanted the Governor to veto voter photo ID only political ones. This article points to the possibility of Cooper running against McCrory in the 2016 election.
It looks like the legislature was correct to give themselves standing to defend their own laws because it’s looking pretty clear that Cooper does not intend to fulfill the requirements of his job.

I must have picture ID for many every day things banking to name one. Voting should be no different.

He can do that, if he wants, but ultimately he has to enforce the laws the Governor signs…LOL His butt works for the State, and has to do the Governor’s bidding. Waste your time, fool…Comes down to it, they can put it on a referendum… Stick that in your petition and smoke it! The MAJORITY of NC wants Voter ID.
John Burns says
If he’s pissing off Civitas, he’s doing something right. Go Coop!
Kirk D. Smith says
It is apparent that the progressive party does not believe in the “rule of Law.” Go figure!
Terry says
Somebody just smack him!

Attorney General Cooper needs to complete the job he was elected to do by the people of the Great State Of North Carolina. The GOP where elected to complete Voter I.D.

If this was about voter fraud, you wouldn’t end early voting. Early voting gives the state more time to discover voter fraud. People should not be discriminated against because they can’t afford to get a copy of their birth certificate. The state should pay to get a copy of anyone’s birth certificate that needs it and that would cost a few million at a time when states can’t afford it. The GOP only wants to be in control, they haven’t spent any time working on issues that are important, choosing to spend all their time scheming to get back in control. If you can’t see this, you don’t want to see it and you should ask yourself Why?

Julie Frye,
No one has ended early voting – the legislation shortens the early voting period but provides for the same number of hours to vote as in the immediate past elections. And, the new legislation does provide for a free copy of a voter’s NC birth certificate or marriage license. see – SECTION 3.3. G.S. 161-10(a)(8). Here is a link to the bill so that you can read it: http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2013&BillID=H589 I am curious to know where you are getting your information?
