Despite the budget crisis some Democrats want the legislature to fork over $575,000 to the Children’s Advocacy Center. That’s $200,000 more than lawmakers allocated in the last two years. House Bill 16’s primary sponsors are Representatives Diane Parfitt, Rick Glazier and Marvin Lucas. The center coordinates training for professionals to deal with reports of child abuse and neglect. The bill could be part of the budget negotiations but Republicans have said this year they want accountability. We will likely see many more such earmarks but will any of the sponsors have to prove they are worth the cost?
