The March issue highlights the A Better Carolina campaign by the Civitas Institute. The initiative is aimed at reminding the public about the progress made over the last 10 years on conservative policy victories and focuses on the areas where improvement is needed. The key policy issues going forward include a fairer tax code, freedom in healthcare, expansion of property rights, education reform, and a secure and fair election climate.
So often we think of national public policy first but the bulwark of reform is taking place at the state level. Civitas is tirelessly working to expand freedom so the government is not a hindrance to the goals and aspirations of North Carolinians.
Our state likes to use the moniker “First in Freedom,” so it’s essential that North Carolina is an example of what can be done to expand opportunity and a climate where liberty thrives. Pushing back against federal overreach is an essential component of securing our rights and freedoms as well. Those that want to intertwine us more to a federal government that is $25 trillion in debt don’t have the best interest of the citizenry in mind. There is a reason so many are coming to North Carolina, oftentimes from areas where opportunity and hope for the future look diminished. A Better Carolina seeks to tell our story to many of those newcomers and remind us all of the benefits of self-government.
