RALEIGH – This week, the Civitas Institute hired Michael Harden as director of agricultural studies and outreach. Harden’s hiring comes as Civitas is expanding its policy portfolio to cover agriculture, which will include public policy studies and outreach to the agribusiness and farming communities across North Carolina.
Harden brings expertise with him as a former state legislator in Georgia, state director for the Georgia chapter of Americans for Prosperity, and farmer.
“Michael possesses a wealth of unique experience that will be an asset to our region’s policy landscape as we expand our portfolio to include North Carolina’s largest industry,” said Civitas Institute president and CEO Donald Bryson. “I am excited about this new step for Civitas, and what it could mean for the agricultural community across our state.”
Harden joins the Civitas Institute from the State Policy Network, where he was a senior director of development.
“Growing up, I fell in love with farming in Graham County with my uncle, where I spent my summers topping tobacco and rainy fall evenings grading it in the barn. I’m excited to give back to such a wonderful state and do it with the great folks of Civitas,” said Harden.
