RALEIGH – Today, the Civitas Institute, North Carolina’s leading conservative think tank, launched a new initiative called “A Better Carolina.” With participation reaching record highs in the most recent election, the need for fact-based voter information is crucial, particularly as news coverage of state policy is declining. A Better Carolina is a long-term, statewide citizen education project devoted to celebrating the substantial policy achievements of the past ten years while casting a hopeful vision for the next decade.
A Better Carolina will focus on critical state issues such as tax fairness, education and elections reform, healthcare access, and protecting private property. Civitas will educate voters on where the Old North State has been, where we are now, and where we can go.
“North Carolina is stronger today than it was ten years ago, due to a decade of economic and policy success,” said Civitas Institute President Donald Bryson. “With determination and a commitment to our values, we can become an even better Carolina this decade.”
Bryson continued, “There has been a widespread misinformation effort over the past several years to persuade North Carolinians that our state’s taxes have increased, educational quality and choice has decreased, our healthcare system is inadequate, and our elections are rigged. The truth is that North Carolina is flourishing and freer than ever. Civitas is proud of the progress North Carolina has made and is optimistic about the future, believing even better days are ahead of us.”
Policies that have the biggest impact on the lives of North Carolinians happen on Jones Street, not Pennsylvania Avenue. A Better Carolina will remind citizens of the critical impact that state policy has in their lives, and how, together, we can achieve a freer, more prosperous, and fair society.
